Dehydrated Lemons, Limes, and Oranges

Yields: 1 Serving Difficulty: Easy Prep Time: 5 Mins Cook Time: 8 Hr 20 Mins Total Time: 8 Hr 25 Mins

Use your leftover lemon, lime, or orange peels to make dehydrated lemon powder, lime powder, or oragne powder to use for different things! Once I am done squeezing a lemon, I put the shell into the freezer in a Ziplock bag! Every week or two I then use my dehydrator to make a lemon powder. I also make lime powder as well! It is so good! Most of the vitamins are the parts we throw away, so I thought it would be fun to find a way to use them! This is my first no waste recipe, and I hope there are more to come!

  • Once you are done squeezing your lemon or lime, put the clean peels into a Ziplock bag to freeze! Once you get enough frozen lemons and limes, you can use your dehydrator or oven to dry them out to make lemon or lime powder. The powder can be used to make lemonade or lime-aid!
  • OVEN DIRECTIONS- Preheat oven to 215. Take a sheet tray and line it with parchment paper. Put lemons onto tray and put in oven for HOURS! You can let them cook for 2 hours straight. After two hours, check their progress. If they snap and feel dry take them out of the oven. Let cool down. Once cool use a blender, food processor, or grinder to smash them pieces down to a powder!
  • DEHYDRATOR DIRECTIONS- Turn on dehydrator to 120. Lay lemon, limes or oranges out on tray. Cook for HOURS! Individual time will vary so make sure you check on them every hour or so. The first 2 to 3 hours, they can cook without even checking on them. They take a moment to dehydrate so have patience and know a wonderful fruit juice or flavored water is on the way! They are done when they snap and feel dry. Once they are dry, you want to turn them into a fine powder! You can accomplish this many ways. You can blend them, use a pestle and mortar, grinder, or a Ziplock bag with a rolling pin to smash them into nothing! Take some anger out on it! Put your back into it! You got this!

Notes

This is extremely simple to do. It is a lazy recipe. You just heat it till it is dry! Then smash! then enjoy as a lemon water, add orange powder to your smoothie, add powder to some honey and make a face mask with tons of nutrients, and the possibilities are endless!
